Hijacked computers net $ 14 million fraudulent charges

By infecting around 4 million computers, 500,000 in the US, a group of hackers were able to capture $ 14 million in funds by posing as legitimate sites like Netflix, the IRS, ESPN, Amazon and others.

The infected computers were redirected to these bogus sites and charged fees any time the user clicked on an advertisement.

Six people from Estonia are in custody and one from Russia remains at large.

The sophistication of on line scams makes it difficult to tell legitimate sites from suspect ones. People always need to be cautious when purchasing on line and do not let haste to place an order interfere with your close review of who the seller really is.
