1 terabyte capacity

This is huge, well, actually very, very small.

Using 20 nanometer technology, Intel and Micron can pack 1 terabytes of storage on a device that fits on the tip of your finger.

How small is a nanometer? It is 1 billionth of a meter.

The period at the end of this sentence is 500,000 nanometers wide.
A human hair is 100,000 nanometers wide
DNA is 2.5 nanometers wide

The implications for all sorts of mobile devices are enormous. Tablets, smart phones and anything that requires small devices will benefit from the technology.

The devices are scheduled for samples in January 2012 and they expect to start production in the first half of 2012. The initial price will certainly be high but like all technology the process will be improved and costs will drop over time.

All that storage is great, just remember to make your backups!
