On October 26th, 2010, Microsoft debuted their cloud strategy with Office 365.

Targeted to be a full blown cloud solution of the Office suite, it should be a very interesting alternative to in house applications.  For the SMB market, prices will be around $ 6 per user per month or $ 72 per year - that is basically in line with Google Apps whcih is $ 50 per year but with the significant advantage of having most of the market already familiar with the products and user interfaces.

Before investing in new applications companies should take a long look at cloud applciations for all the advantages they bring;

- Data availability anywhere in teh world

- Painless updates done for you as new versions are released

- Ease of managing increases and decreases in users

- Less reliance on hardware locally and many more advantages
