Mobile market patent battle lines being drawn.

Google announced acquiring Motorola Mobility for $ 12.5 billion on Monday, the deal includes 17,500 patents and 7,000 more in the application process.

 

This follow on the heels of Nortel patent sales to a consortium including Apple and other key players in the mobile market.

 

There are a variety of lawsuits all over the world claiming infringements and the patent troves being built seem to indicate that the trend will continue as a standard way of business.  Costs will be huge fighting cases on multiple fronts so it may fuel more market consolidation and weed out the lower tier players.
