Sony PlayStation network hacked and user data was compromised

In another alarming attack on confidential data, The Sony PlayStation network was hacked taking down the network for over a week and loosing many users login credentials and possibly credit card information.

Sony has been slow to provide details and has been cryptic in its media statements.  Clearly the gamers network remains down and may be back up next week.  The incident, impacting 77 million registered users, shows how confidential data can be breached regardless of the security that was in place.
